Romanian Language
Romanian Language Overview
Romanian is a language belonging to the Romance language family and plays an important role in the European Union as part of the Eastern Romance branch. It is the official language of both Romania and Moldova and is also one of the official languages of the European Union. The speakers of Romanian are primarily concentrated in Romania and Moldova, but there are also Romanian-speaking communities in Australia, Italy, the United States, France, Germany, and other countries. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of learners of Romanian in China, making it one of the popular minority languages.
During the Soviet era, due to historical and political reasons, Moldova referred to Romanian as "Moldovan language" However, in 2013, the Constitutional Court of Moldova ruled that "the official language of the Republic (of Moldova) is Romanian".
Broadly speaking, Romanian has four dialect branches: Daco-Romanian (the official language of present-day Romania), Aromanian, Megleno-Romanian, and Istro-Romanian. In a narrower sense (within Daco-Romanian), the dialects mainly include Moldavian dialect, Montenegrin dialect, Banat dialect, CriČ™ dialect, and MaramureČ™ dialect.
The writing history of Romanian is somewhat convoluted. Early Romanian used the Cyrillic alphabet based on the Church Slavonic orthography. Since 1920, Romanians have switched entirely to the Latin alphabet for writing. However, after Moldova became part of the Soviet Union, Cyrillic script based on the Russian alphabet was introduced for the local population. Presently, Romanians and most Moldovans use the Latin alphabet, while those living on the left bank of the Dniester River use Cyrillic script.
In summary, Romanian is an important Romance language with speakers primarily in Romania and Moldova, but also dispersed globally.
Romanian Language Translation Process
The Romanian language translation process typically consists of four steps: translation requirement communication, project preparation and translation, text formatting and quality check, and feedback and update of the manuscript.
During the translation requirement communication phase, the translation company extracts the Romanian language translation files and communicates with the client regarding their specific translation needs. This includes analyzing the translation language pair, industry domain, translation volume, and specific time requirements. The translation company then provides the final quotation after client confirmation, initiating project translation preparation.
In the project preparation and translation phase, the translation team organizes and summarizes project files and related reference materials, creates translation memory or terminology databases, and matches Romanian translators to translate and update the translation memory database in real-time.
In the text formatting and quality check phase, the translation team handles the localization translation formatting for images, charts, and other content that requires localization translation formatting. They extract, translate, and format text and have a professional review team perform a final quality check on the files. Any problematic sections in the formatted or bilingual files are marked for modification or formatting to ensure there are no errors in content or format.
In the feedback and update phase, the project manager conducts a final check on the manuscript and delivers it to the client for review. If the client requires modifications to the final manuscript, the translation team updates the final manuscript, terminology database, and translation memory accordingly. This phase serves as the final quality assurance step.
